another question.. this about rim offsets.

ok, a while ago i went to get my tires rotated and balenced.. the guy said he couldn't rotate front to back cause the offsets were different.. but when i got new tires a few weeks ago, i noticed that one of the original back ones was on the front.. i haven't experenced any tire rubbing so i left it alone..
so wich tire guy is on crack?

I think the different offsets were only on the factory 16" rims.
The stock 15x7's were the same offset if I'm not mistaken.

Bones,

The 16 x 8 wheels have a different offset as Chad described. Just for grins, I swapped a rear to a from once to check the clearance. The inner edge of the very rim is so close to the upper ball joint boss that I knocked the wheel weights off when I spun it on the car. SOOO, after hauling the wheel back down to the tire shop for rebalancing, I learned just how much that little bit of offset difference makes. You can run four front wheels, however, and it makes for an interesting increase in the rear track width of the vehicle.

As for the 15 x 7 wheels, I don't know about all wheels and years, but I don't believe tbhe offfsets are different. What probbaly caught the guy at the tire shop was the 'Z28' label, since many of them have the 16" wheels. At least he was alert enough to know that.
