TPS sensor installation

I was wondering how hard it is to replace a tps sensor on my car? I have a 1986 LG4 trans am. is there anything I would need besides the tps sensor? I was told I would need a float and a carb rebuild kit while I have the carb taken apart.

Any advice is appreciated.

Tony

You probably won't need a float unless yours is dissolving. A carb rebuild kit would be a good idea, if for nothing else than the gaskets, gauge, and settings chart that comes with it. As long as you're opening the carb, you might as well clean it out and readjust all the settings.

Since you're replacing the TPS, you'll need to adjust it. That requires a special 2mm "double-D" socket. The mixture control solenoid lean and rich stops require a 4mm "double-D" socket. Adjustments are nearly impossible without the tools. Lisle and OTC (p/n 7667) make a set for Rochester E2ME and E4ME carbs for about $12-15, or you may be able to rent them.

You'll have to drill out the plugs over the adjustment screws, remove the rivets for the MC adjusting cover, and might as well seal over the main metering well plugs with epoxy while it's off.

Yes, a carb kit would be a good idea.
