does you guys choke light go on and then fade out gradully when you shut off your car?

I just put in a new alternator and I just noticed this...I never noticed it before.

Is this normal?

 

On my 85 Z28 my choke light comes on when I turn the key to start it up then it turns off right after that. It doens't dim or anything, just turns off.

 

Mine does, lots of cars do. It's because the alt continues to charge as the engine coasts down.

With the engine turned on but the alt not charging, there's 12V at the side of the light that's hooked to ignition and ground at the alternator, so current flows through the light and it lights. Once the alt starts to charge, there's 12V on that side of the light too, so both ends of the bulb are at 12V, so no current flows, so it goes out. When the alt is still charging with the ignition off, there's still 12V at the end of the bulb connected to the alt, but there's ground at the other end, from all the other stuff that is powered by ignition; so current can flow from the alt, through the bulb, and to ground through those other circuits, so the light lights.
