Distributor???

IS the distributors the same for a TBI as the TPI? And on what years and applications is the Pink rods used?

I've encountered the same problem. The distributor cap on early HEI engines (coil in cap) are different on TBI and TPI engines. The TPI cap has a lower profile, and I've had a ****** of a time at a couple of parts stores convincing them that the cap they just handed me is wrong. "But the computer says..." Yeah, I know, I've been there.

I'm not sure if the distributor itself is different, or just the cap and rotor.

Oops! Almost missed that second one. Anyone can correct me where I'm wrong, but I believe the "pink" rods were used on auto and truck V-8s through 1993, whereafter the PM rods took over. I know the early second-run LT1s in '93 Y-cars had the pink rods, then switched to powedered metal in '94.

If my data is correct, the "pink" rods first appeared in production in 1987 on cars and possibly earlier on truck engines.
