The gap is the space between the electrodes. It's 045 for my LG4 but yours is probably different.
Some of the plugs can be difficult to get at and you might have to do them from under the car. I have to disconnect the wires on the starter to get at No. 8 from under the car but my car has headers.
Use a plug socket - it has a rubber insert so that the ceramic part of the plug don't break when you tighten it.
Do not overtighten the plugs and be sure to use anitseize compound on the threads - makes them easier to get out later.

also, to "gap" the spark plugs, you can pick up a "spark plug gapper" at any autoparts store for about $2 bucks. it's just a circular copper disk looking thing with measurements on it.

Bad idea.
I too used to live in TN. Then I took a job offer in California. I'm glad I didn't have to sell my car. I had put a 400 in it, not even dimly legal of course, except that it did pass the sniffer test; but I religiously saved every single scrap of whatever I took off. So I was able to continue to enjoy my car even in Smog **** Hell.
It's just not that hard to change the plugs.
