Measure it with a degree wheel and a dial indicator.

step one...remove cam
step two get the dial and learn how to use it
step three put cam back in

(there is no way of telling just by the sound)

1. Find TDC accurately (i.e. ignore the timing mark)
2. Put degree wheel on balancer
3. Put dial indicator on push rod end of an intake rocker
4. Adjust rocker tighter until push rod stops moving (lifter bottomed)
5. Rotate crank, note degree readings for valve events - .006" & .050" opening, peak, .050" & .006" closing; note peak lobe lift
6. Put valve adjustment back where it was
7. Repeat for an exhaust valve
8. Compare to cam spec book

Alternatively you could remove the rocker entirely and put the dial indicator on the push rod end itself.

Have you tried to ask the previous owner? I assume there was a previous owner or else you would/should know what cam is in your own car...

There "is" a way you can tell by the sound, its the most easiest way yet.
