Vader and every1, about all the pinging questions I have been asking.............
Today I took my car to the mechanic. I told him that my car was pinging and I told him about the times when I have been stuck with it and it won't even crank. He took my car into the garage and checked the timing. He came to me and told me that it was set at 33!!!! So he set it at 15 even though he knew it is supposed to be set at 10. He also said that it being set so high might be causing it not to crank every once in a while. So I drive it on 15 and there was no more pinging, but it was so slow. I felt a difference right away, it was so slow I couldn't even peel out. I made him set it to at least 20, and its still not pinging, and it felt much better almost like 33, I'll have to see if I can still peel out. Thats what the pinging was though, not the EGR!!!!

There is a definite problem if your car needs timing that high. Stock ignition base timing is 6 BTDC (I think), and I run 10 BTDC. Is he setting it correctly? Did he disconnect the timing harness (single brown wire at the right rear of the engine bay)? ...uhh we are talking about the L98 car right?

If you re-ask this on the V6 message forum, I'll give you a longer answer, but..
Yes, timing advanced that far (33 BTDC) can keep the car from starting- but the motor should still be able to crank. You can destroy spark plugs thru detonation with timing that high; personally I would never go higher than 12 advance. Better yet, set it at spec (10 advance) and get a computer chip.
See you on the V6 area..
