benifits or 12 point bolts over hex?

Just wondering if there are benefits to using 12 point bolts as opposed to hex?

Thanks

Robert

what he said.

12 pt heads/nuts are generally much smaller in diameter which makes them excellent in tight quarters.

I was wondering if 12 pt bolts are more prone to stripping than 6 pt as I imagine they would be or if you buy grade 8 it really doesn't matter?

12 pt. - great for header bolts. I found that out the hard way fighting with big tube headers to get a standard bolt in that came with the headers.

They are less prone to stripping, actually.... the tool contacts the fastener at 12 points instead of 6, so there isn't as much force on the material at each contact point, and that force of course is what strips bolt heads. Having the force spread out more allows them to be smaller, which is what makes them so good for header bolts and such things, where they have to be real close to an obstruction.
