what the hell

Ok, I was driving around in my car earlier and when I went home I turned the ignition off and the engine was still running! I left the ignition off which made the engine run a little ruff but still running and unhooked both battery cables but it still was running, so I unpluged the alternator then it stopped. My first guess is the ignition switch, I have already replaced the cylinder and keys so I can rule that out. Does anyone have any other suggestions I can check? Never heard of this happening before...damn my luck.

You've replaced the lock cylinder & key after this happened?...or before this happened? Remember, the lock cylinder is not the ignition switch. The ignition switch is mounted on top of the steering column, under the dash. The lock cylinder merely connects to the rest of the linkage in the steering column that in turn connects to the activating rod of the ignition switch. Sounds like some part of this linkage system is broken, worn, or mis-adjusted. I'm sure others will post with more specific details.

Never mind my ignition problem. I think it was a bad connection because I pulled on the wires leading from the ignition switch up through the column and it worked.
