what caused a car not to start when it gets a little chilly in the air?

i just put a new battery, alternator, and starter in within the past 2 weeks. since then, my car won't even crank when it's just a little cold out. like today, i came home and was getting ready to go out, but it was getting a little colder. so i went out, and it woundn't start. however, i was able to start it by taking a screwdrive and touching the two bolts on the starter, like the solinoid and what ever the other one is. is the a bad starter? what can it be? also i'm getting my new engine next week, will the continue over with the new engine?

check your wire from the battery to the starter and the grounds for good connections and grounds.

22,

Check the neutral safety switch and/or clutch safety switch. The greases used on these can get a little stiffer when the temperature drops. Try starting in NEUTRAL instead of PARK.

Another possibility is the VATS system. Make sure the resistor block on your key is clean. A VATS failure should give a dsah indicator, however.

If the safety switches check out, check the ignition switch, switch linkage, and tilt mechanism. Try tilting the column to the lowest position before cranking. If this works, it's time to drop the column and inspect the switch and linkages.

Cooler weather can be a little more challenging, but it does have some advantages. Most of you ladies will understand what I mean in saying that cooler air does have its good "points".

Don't know if this is anyway related, but my car had this thing about not wanting to crank and stay running when it's cold. It would take like 7 times cranking it b4 it would stay running. Finally I started turning the key till the dash lights come on, letting the fuel pump run and then cranking it. Starts right up first time, everytime now.
