hello- i fpound a mallory unilite with the tach drive for a corvette. could this be used as a regular dist?

Maybe yes, depending on what the rest of the car is. You just wouldn't hook up the tach cable.

the situation is i have a mallory comp 9000 dist that the cap is too big for a intake carb i want to try. this dist has the smaller cap but has the mechanical tach hookup. the guy who has it thought it was only for late sixties corvettes . its got the same plug as the one i have now.

It should work then, there's no requirement that the cable drive be hooked to anything. I was more referring to things like computers, it wouldn't interface readily to FI for example.
