Is This Cam Any Good?

I recently realized that I was running too small of a cam in my '89 IROC 350 TPI. I called summit and crane and I had a talk with them. I picked the powermax 2031. Which has 208In/214Ex @0.050 and 438In/452Ex gross lift. When I got the cam it said on the card it was for an 88-89 305!! I am pretty pissed about it and I don't want to end up in the same situation again. Is this cam any good?

Thanks

The cam should still work with your car but it is very mild for a 350. IMO, it is too mild for a 305. I have a 305 and I will probably go with a 212/218 or a 218/224.

That is THE maximum you can use with stock L98 heads. .460 is as much lift as they can handle stock. That is a good cam for a 350 that can't rev past 5500. You are probably lucky to find 5000 rpm.

Am I wrong?

Whether it's a 305 or 350 doesn't make a lot of difference as far as the cam is concerned. The same cam will behave slightly "milder" in the 350 than the 305, that's it.

Unless you've done other upgrades to the TPI (shorter runners, larger TB, PROM tuning, etc.), they recommended the correct cam.

I ran the Crane 2032 on stock heads (except for the springs) and stock TPI intake on my 355 before I switched it to carb and pulled a 13.8 on 3.42 gears spinning the slicks through the 60'. That cam was a 212/220 @ .050 I believe.
