Need some help installing piston rings.

I got a set of Hastings rings. There are eight black ones with a dot on one side of each, eight silver ones with no dot, eight oil rings and 16 oil ring spacers. The black rings are beveled on one side, hence the dot on them so you know which way to install them. The silver rings don't have a bevel. I'm confused on what order to install these. I think it's (from top to bottom) black, silver, oil spacer 1, oil ring, oil spacer2. Does that sound right? The included instructions were pretty confusing and not much help.

That's right.

99.9% of the time, the dot goes up. I gotta leave that margin of error.

far as i know dot always goes up, the box should have instructions as to ring location. most of the rings i've used had pretty basic instruction or labeling, like 1st, 2nd, and oil. make sure you square them up with a piston or squareing tool when you check end gaps and go easy with the filer.

Dot does usually go up. Make sure not to get the first and second rings mixed up. I could be wrong so don't count on me, but I think the black is the top and the silver is the second.

Yes that order should be correct. Some sets are slightly different from others so I would suggest going over the instructions several times and try to make something of it. That's unusual that the instructions are confusing, they're usually pretty clear. But, that should be the correct order. If I'm mistaken, slap me. :sillylol:

i'm an idiot, the instructions for the order were on top of the box but i had folded back the flaps when i opened it and didn't notice. the correct order was actually silver, black, then the oil ring. all i have left to do is put on the heads, intake, oil pan and some other minor stuff and it'll be ready to go in!
