Look at the part number on the valve.
Should be a "P" or an "N" at the end of the number.

My experience is that you don't NEED the number (they can go by application) but to make sure it is the right orofice size you should get the number.
Can you wire wheel the valve to beter see the number??
Your GM dealer should be able to match it up pretty good, the number just makes you sure that its the right one.

Just take it off and take it to auto store to match it up, but take it off carefully so that you can put it back on if needed (Just make sure to vaccum all that carbon out of the port before you put it back on). When I got mine for my 88 Firebird the gave me one that didnt fit. Then they looked up the part # on my original one and they couldnt locate it. Finally we matched one up which was from an 87 Firebird (I dont remember the engine type). So their computer kept giving wrong part #'s. My new EGR valve cost me about $46. The quote I got from GM was for about $60.

Yes they hook up the same.
You need to get a vac. diagram if you have any questions about the way it hooks up.
Look at the underhood label or maybe Vader has a diagram for you. (that guy has all the cool pictures
)
I don't have one here in front of me.

I have one diagram that shows constant vac. to the solenoid on one side, (this could also split to other sensors that need constant vac.),and the vac. line goes to the EGR on the other. The ECM signals when to command the EGR on and the solenoid opens allowing vac. to the valve.
If you need a new valve and the number is gone/missing I would take it to the dealer and match it up.

This is what I have for a 86 305.
Vac. comes from port "J" which is the front pass. side vac. port at the base of the carb. This is the port that kinda sticks out at about a 7 o'clock position in the carb base.
Looking at the carb from the front of the car there should be 5 places for vac. hoses , from left to right..
"J" To EGR solenoid
"B" To air cleaner base
"L" To PCV valve/air management valve/EFE TVS
"T" Canister control valve
"M" Canister control valve
From the EGR solenoid it goes to the EGR valve.
Thats all I show. Hope this helps.

"Joe"???
The EGR one should be the port on the base plate of the carb that is under the choke pull off. The post sticks out at about a 7 o'clock position looking at the carb from the front.
the map should go to the rear of the carb "N", this should be the only small port back there.
This diagram is actually a 85 diagram, according to this book they are the same.
Hope this helps......Bill
