400 timing? emergency
400 timing? emergency
I have a 400 sbc and can't find the right way to set the timing marks. When I start the engine it just backfires a lot and doesnt start all the way. Any suggestions?

Somehow I get a feeling that it didn't just start up doing this as you were driving down the road....
Setting timing on a 400 is no different from any other motor.

Is the distributor installed right? It may be a tooth off, which may cause those problems.
I haven't started the motor yet that's what i'm trying to do. It started to backfire and then we fixed the timing (i think) and now it has no spark and sounds funny and it's bad.
