left hand drill, most likely 3/8, then retap the hole last thing i'd do is put a easy out in there, unless it was one of the short snap on kind and even thin i doubt i would. don't like that weld a nut on the stub and wrench it out.

i stripped the crank bolt in my 305 last year trying to turn the engine over for valve adjustments. i know exactly how you feel about aggrvation.

however, here's my question to add to this thread.

if you strip that out, can you just retap it for the 7/16" thread? or do you need to go to the 1/2" thread?

Cut a long, deep slot in the threaded rod with a dremel tool or something, then get the biggest, beefiest flat-head screwdriver you can. Tap that into the slot with a hammer to get it nice and tight. Then, twist it out. If its too tight, but the screwdriver has a handle with flat surfaces, get a long bar clamp (like used in woodworking), clamp it to the handle tightly, and twist. The idea behind the bar clamp is to get more leverage, like a wrench.

Thanks for the advice guys but i think I've pretty much destroyed any chance of saving the crank looks like my inexperience using an extractor has done some damage to the bolt hole, think i should have put a little more thought into what i was trying to do or atleast should have waited to read more advice on here LOL. oh well looks like im pulling engine back out to replace crank and was so close to getting to fire it up for first time.

PS yep 83 Z28 HO asheboro not to far away Ive been there a few times.

You can still retap the hole to a bigger size or put a heli-coil in it, the cranks not scrap. If you screwed it up bad it may have to be put in a lathe to retap so the threads run true with the crank and don't wobble and put it out of balance.
