getting a 92 RS for 1,000

The car has 16x8 rims on it with nice tires (iroc rims or z-28), in addition 3 more same rims sitting inside the car. It's got 140,000 miles on it. The reason he's selling it is because its been rearended pretty bad from the back. I already told him i would buy it (mainly for the rims). It's also got a harwood cowl hood on it (just like mine). Does any of you guys have experience with replacing the rear of the car? (body, i mean). I want to fix the car up and possibly sell it for a lot more, or maybe keep it. If the fixing don't work out, then i want to sell it for parts. (its an automatic). Also, what kind of tranny's did they come with? same as in the irocs? that would be nice.

Depends on how bad the rear damage is. Chances are good that you're going to need to do some welding. New 1/4 panels (from places like The Paddock or Ames Performance) are almost $1000, so you'll probably be getting one from a junkyard. That means more measuring to do.

If the car was hit very hard on a side, you might need to get the car on a frame machine before you weld. A GM/Helms manual has the measurements that need to be taken to determine a tweaked frame.

I'd say your best bet is to now find another RS without a drivetrain, and combine the two to make one car.

All automatic trannies 83-up were the 700r4, the later the year, the more "refined" the transmission design became.
