balancer/timing

is there any way i can tell if my balancer is misaligned? i just cant seem to get my car timed right...and i want to know how i can figure this out. where should the 0* mark be in relationship to the key slot in the balancer??? any help is greatly appreciated

The crank woodruff keyway is cut at about 45° advanced from TDC. The best way to check your balancer ring markings is to either compare it to a known good balancer or get out your trusty piston stop and degree wheel, then remark the balancer ring with a degree tape.
