i really want to get an engine scanner, but they are at least like 2 grand for a good one. do any of you guys have the actron one? its the one that is often found in stores like autozone, etc. its 300 bucks for the scanner and the cartridge for our cars. i think i want to get it, but i dont know if i want to spend that much on something that im not 100% sure about.

anyone ever used this thing? if you did, do you like it? would you reccomend it?
thanks

Why spend THAT much money when you can buy Diacom for 300 bucks ? You can get a used laptop for very little money and be on your way! Checkout www.rinda.com

Anyone make their own scanner? I've seen the info inside the tech article about "burning your own prom part I", and I'm thinking of trying it. I won't burn anything "yet", but it'd be nice to get some info out of the computer.

I have the scanner, and either the thing just really sux, my car has some serious problems, or it's got a custom computer in it! Either way, many results are not accurate. I went to adjust my TPS with the thing. It only read 0 volts, or one volt. Break out the multimeter, and adjust it, I get it to .55 volts. Go back to the scannar, and it's still reading 0. Floor it and it goes up to 1 volt. Multimeter reads 4.something. I use the pontiac firebird 350 v-8 option on it. Just in case I was wrong about the engine type, I tried droping it to 305 v-8 and it gives me a link error. I think the scannar is crap! I will be building a computer for the car soon. That will tell me the real deal!

If you gonna spend the $$ on a software and alaptop go for EASE, www.easesim.com

The autoxray works fine in you want the budget variant.

Auto x-ray is ok, as mentioned. Only good for one app, though, like GM OBDI (for our stuff), for instance... 'bout $180???

I'd like to get another one but cheaper than that, if possible... Anyone get a deal on AutoXray's??? Maybe a BULK deal for this board?
