My IROC in trouble HELP! (Long) UPDATE

Hey guys long time no post. The other day I was drivin on the freeway back from my insurance place and halfway thru my freeway trip my car starts runnin like ****! SES light comes on, exhaust sounds wierd, car is shakin like crazy, funny smell lingers in the air, and my car loss a crapload of power I floored it and it barely accelerates (like a riceboy ride hehe). It was also backfiring like crazy. The smell is coming outta my exhaust I figured only that much out. I haven't had time to hook back up my o2 sensor and its been like 2 months since I put my headers on. I know thats why the SES light comes on. But the car was drivin fine up until that day. Could it because of the o2 sensor? Tomorrow i have a day off so im gonna sit down get my car up and running again. So I'm askin could it be because of my o2 sensor not being hooked up? That is my assumption and out of the past few months since my headers been on that was the longest period of drivin time at once i have had which may have caused my car to do this. What really concerns me was i drove it around the block yesterday and it was fine then today i was gonna take it to work and see how it went and not even halfway down my street it all happens again. My poor ROC has seen better days and I'm stuck drivin the old wagon. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope to get this taken care of by tomorrow so I can wash her up get her drivin like how she was!

no freaking clue as to what your problem is but just something to think about...your car doesnt use the 02 sensor when its cold but after about 10 minutes it usually kicks in. This point is noticeable in my car because the rpm drops by about 200. If youve taken your car for more then a 15-20 minute drive before and had no problems then the chances of it being the o2 are very small because if it was fine then dont know why it wouldnt be fine now although i have no personal experience with running no o2 so dont quote me

reset the computer

Mine did something like this about a month ago. Driving in traffic, my IROC went to about 210 on the temp gauge, and the SES light came on. Then it went into "limp home" mode. Unfortunately, I was about 40 miles from home, all interstate, so I had to drive it.

Once I got home, I decoded a 32 and a 42. Then I disconnected the battery overnight. Then I reconnected it in the morning and no code, and has been running fine.

make sure your est 4 wire plug behind the distributor is properly plugged in, this will do exactly what you described and throw the ses light.

UPDATE!

Well i hooked up the o2 sensor and the light doesnt come on. The car is not in limp mode but it stil idles rough and the exhaust sounds and smells funny. The acceleration is better but still kinda sluggish. Tomorrow I'm gonna make sure wire 4 is hooked in properly. I think im gonna have to replace it since it does sit on the header and had melted the boot some. probably on friday im gonna order the heat sleeves since I will finally have extra cash to order them. Can plug 4 cause the ****ty idling and acceleration? Thanx guys
