Better heads, edelbrocks or trick flows?

I'm just set to hit click on the edelbrock 6085 heads, but i was recently also told that Trick Flow G2 TW heads may give me a better gain on my 1991 Z28 L98 motor, which would anyone suggest i get? The trick flows are also about $30 cheaper

I have a 1989 L98 and also the Edlebrock 6085 heads and I have had no problems with them and I believe they are the better of the two choices.

i'd have to vote for the trick flow heads. after seeing the flow bench report on heads in one of the recent magazines (which one i forgot, i'd have to find it, the trick flow heads show better flow and a much better swirl rating along with a better located spark plug. anyone else?? again, just my opinion.

Here's another vote for the Edelbrocks. I have the 6085's and I'm very happy with them. A few years ago on the old board many who had the TF twisted wedge heads constantly complained about problems with valve springs and valve guides. Their new head design may be great, but after reading about all the problems people experienced, I'll never buy a Trick Flow product. But that's just my opinion, it could be a great cylinder head.

Both are good heads, but my preference lies with the TFS heads. Both the G2s and the 23º heads are great, and I like they way they set them up. One thing Edel's have over everone else is that all the threaded bosses for the sparkplugs and acc.(IIRC) have helicoils in 'em.

I have the Trick Flow 23* heads with the 1.47" springs. I have a Comp Cams XE284H-10 cam with .507/.510 lift, 284/296 Tappet lift, 240/246 duration and 110 lobe separation. I get 420 HP out of my 383 and have absolutely no problems with these heads. They are a good choice. Talk to the guys at Trick Flow, and make sure you get the proper springs for your application.

Does trick flow make a good set of heads for the LG4 as well? I would like to replace my heads when the engine is rebuilt. How would these compare to the vortec heads? Would I need a new intake?

thanks.

The 23*'s fit 262-400 C.I.D. small block Chevy engines. The Twisted Wedge G2's fit 327, 350 or 400 C.I.D. engines. From what I know, they flow much better than the Vortecs and you'll save weight with aluminum heads, however, I do not have any specific data. According to Trick Flow dyno's, they made more HP than the Corvette aluminum L98 heads, especially over 4,500 RPM's. About 40 more hp on their tests. I would definatley replace the stock manifold if you're switching to the Trick Flows.

Noam,,
How long did Summit tell you the TFS G2's would be on backorder? I remember waiting 4 months when they orginally said 3 weeks. I'm still glad I waited--excellant head.

Noam,

Edelbrock = excellent out of the box quality.
Heli-coiled holes, thick deck, not as much casting flash. Having said that......

TFS 23* 195cc heads = more HP, less dinero, good first "cleanup" porting project.

And lastly..........

1966 327 + early TFS twistys + Comp XE 274 cam, and plenty of die grinder time on the heads and intake = ........

Lots o' fun in a 2950 lb. 4-speed car. Like,uh, 7,000 RPM worth of fun darned near on a regular basis. Good luck, they are both good street heads. The Twisted wedge G2 heads are MUCH improved over the early castings.

the trick flows that had all those problems w/ valves and guides and mis-geommetry were on the early heads. The G2 heads are totally improved. I love them more than the edelbrocks i borrowed from a friend..
