can i go faster with about the same MPG??
Hey guys, i raced my buddys brother for the first time tonight, hes got a 94 camaro, auto, its got flowmaster catback, msd box, programer, fipk, shift kit and 3.73's. now I raped him out of the hole like 2 1/2 cars and at about 85-90 he passed me. Now i know its a lt1 and there amazing but i wunna beat him so is there much else i can do to my car to make it faster without usin to much more gas?? i can;t really think of anyting, i was think gears but that will kill gas. any input is helpful, ps my mods are in the sig. thanks

In general most gain mileage with higher ratio gears. Gears arent going to help you on the top end though, granted you will pull away quicker and the other person might give up sooner

I guess it depends on what you're trying to do. If you intend to outrun him at top speed, then you need higher gears. But it'll kill your acelleration. Might take a few miles, but you'll outrun him.

guys, lets think of it this way, i wunt to go about a half a secoudn faster then i am, now without getting into the engine, in the quarter i am guessing i would be at his bumper across the line. its not much a diff, just enough for me to lose lol. well he says he ran a 13.7 with a bad gear and a slipping trans, since then he had it all fixed, added a shift kit and put an msd box on it. so i am guessing he should be aroudn 13.3-4 so i think its safe to say i should be able to click a nice 13.7-8 out no prob. what u think??

If i got a set of say the world product sportsman heads that have the 2.02/1.60 valves would it be horrible but really fast hehe. thanks guys

Gears won't kill your gas mileage, unless you go EXTREME with it... A .5 second diff in 1/4 mile time shouldn't hurt gas too bad either. What you need is a small 100 or 75 shot of Nitrous
Now that'll fix him
. Just when he thinks he close to you...spray him.

lol yea but i have hypercraptic pistons so they will melt like plastic with nitrous, plus it feels like cheaping to me when people spray lol. I am thinking that some 3.73's and a set of vortecs machined to handle my cam should be good enough to get me into the 12's. what do you guys think??

Gears are good, they would help, and so would vortec heads
but a little 75 shot wont hurt your pistons bad. And btw, is it cheap if it causes a little excess wear on your motor

my solution: (athough it costs a bit)
1. put in a T56
2. put in agressive gears.( and redo your posi if needed while you're at it.)
you can go a little bit more agressive on the gears and still get better gas miliage.... you need more gear because the T56 has a higher ratio 1st, but then the other gears are more set for what you're looking for.
then just put it in 6th when you need to save gas.
