Knock sensor

I have an 84 L69 with all the computer stuff removed. I believe the sensor on the lower right side of the block (around cyl #4) is a knock sensor (?) My questions are:
1) Can i wire this to a warning light on the dash?
2) How? Is the sensor an open/close type like a fan switch or is it a variable voltage/resistance switch like a temp gauge sender or O2 sensor.

It's a sensor that spits out variable AC voltage. You would need an electronic circuit to translate that into some sort of bar display. They do make something like that... look in Summit's catalog.

thanks for the quick answer. Ill check summit. My though is that the sensor can detect much smaller levels of detonation than i can.
