Correct Temperature Vacuum switch?

In looking into my idling problem I did find that my temperature vacuum switch (TVS) had gone bad on me (it's stuck open even when cold). But when I went to the parts store they asked what color the valve is. The 'cap' on the valve is a green color (and by the way this is not the original switch- this has been in for about 7-8 years), but the store couldn't find a match. Their computer listed 4 colors (I only remember black and blue were 2 of them) but green wasn't one of the choices for that engine. I've got a G-code engine (305 HO). Is the 'green' version of this valve a dealer item, or is it possible that I've been running the wrong valve all this time?

Thanks again in advance for the help!

Yes it's for the Evaporative canister purge. Sits to the left of the thermostat housing (if you're facing the engine from the front), has 2 large vacuum connections, black plastic body with a colored top and brass base.
