oily substance in floor board

hi everyone---

drove to work today and discovered something interesting..my passenger side floor board had a puddle of an oily substance i don't quite recognize..i used a white towel to absorb some of it to see if it was coolant or oil--which i don't think it is either one of them..it was kind of a clear, oily substance...the car is an 89 r/s with the 2.8 V6..any ideas???someone at work mentioned it might be my air conditioner having problems...i am stumped on this one..also, the car runs great and i noticed no problems on the 45 minute trip home..thanks for any help...sinjin89...

check the heater core, but if it was antifreeze you'd probably smell it.

Does it have any type of smell to it?

Did you ever figure out what the issue was? The other day I noticed I had the same issue.

Thanks

The heater core is bad. That's antifreeze.

I quoted the wrong post, but the answer is the same. That's antifreeze, your heater core is leaking and needs to be replaced. If you get it on your fingers it should "smell" sweet a little.

Thanks for the reply! I agree it could be that, the only reason I would say otherwise is it does not smell like antifreeze at all. It's a thicker clear oily substance. My first thought was then air conditioning.

It's either antifreeze or refrigerant oil. Sounds like you've already determined that it's not antifreeze.

I'm guessing your AC is no longer blowing cold air.
