Msd Coil In Tpi

i recently bought an msd coil for my tpi, and as soon as i put it on and drove it up to 4-4.5 rpms it did not even want to gp no where. this NEVER happen when i had the stock 1 it will always pull to 5500 with the stock coil no prob. i dont know if its the coil or something eles, but is this msd coil strong enought for a tpi, since they only make one hei coil for in cap style.

becasue i know from experiance that an lg4 hei coil is diff from an tpi col for some reason, they have different part numbers, and made a big diif on my car when i tryied this theory.

so any help on this msd coil will be very helpful

I've used the MSD coil many many times. They have always worked great for me. I have used them with both aftermarket and stock modules with good results, so I'm not sure what's going on with your engine.

Both, actually. I have used the MSD in-cap coil on a buncha carbureted cars (computer controlled or not) and the MSD external coil on several divorced-coil applications (TBI, carbureted on a small cap distributor boat engine application, TPI). Near as I can tell, the electronics of it all are exactly the same, it's just wheter the coil is on top of the distributor or outside it. There are 4 wires coming off the coil, regardless of whether it's internal or external. 2 on the - side of the coil (to the module and to the tach) and 2 on the + side (power wire supplying 12V+ to the coil and the other going to the module to supply power to it, I suppose). Either coil has the SAME basic 4 connections but it's a matter of whether it's done externally with wires or internally with with bus-bars in the more compact in-cap design.
