Hoiw to protect the valve seats while porting?

I have a few other posts from months ago. I am finally. finally getting started on these heads. I hate long hours at work.

My heads already have a valve job that has low miles on it. I have them off for port matching and I am opening up the roof a little. They have 1.94/1.50 valves and a bowl blend. (601 castings) I also want to shim the guide bosses a little but am afraid of screwing up the valve seats if I lose control and hit the valve seats. What could I do to protect them? I was thinking of using some machinest spray and seat the valves to positively locate the seats and then remove the valves and cover the seats with some duct tape (several layers). Does this sound like a stupid idea? Any suggestions are welcome.

A few layers of duct tape should do the trick. It's not like you will lose control for a long period of time (long enough to get through a few layers of tape).

Cool, sounds like I got the right idea for a change. lol I am not going to go overboard with the porting since it's my first time on heads. I have a little experience with intakes.

I see you are from out there MI in that town. I have a buddy who lives out there. He works at one of the boating places. I am not sure if it's in town or what.
