mystery noise
mystery noise
Ok my car usually makes a wierd noise when it's really cold outside (winter only...usually) and it's been sitting all night. It has done it during the summer to but more often in the winter. Been going on for a year or so. When I crank it it sounds as if something is not getting oil to it or something..almost like a slipping belt but not that high of a sound more like metal to metal. It is not a constant speed but in reputition with the motor rpms....get's faster the more rpms. Could it be a bad bearing or bearing going bad? It's hard to expalin the noise exactley. It only last for about a minute and then goes away, almost like what ever is doing it got the oil it needed. It sounds like it's coming from the head. I stuck a wood broom handle (short piece) to the valve covers and other parts of the engine and sounded like it was louder from the driver's side head/intake area.
I know, it would be nice to hear the sound or be able to describe it better. Thanks for any advice. The motor runs fine other than that occasional noise and makes no other noises besides the ones a typical 350 chevy makes.
