Water Pump Install?
Water Pump Install?
I figured out that my water pump was leaking so i bought a new water pump and im going to attempt to install it myself.
But, I never done this before, so i just wanted to know if its an easy install or what. Also it would be great if someone could give me really simple step by step removal and installation instructions.
P.S.--This is for the car in the sig.
Thanks,
EternalCamaro

pretty straight forward, if i remember right, you've got a serpentine belt, even easier, now hopefully you bought a pump correct for your car (believe serpentine pumps spin backwards from v-belt pumps)
drain the coolant
remove the belt (don't forget the routing)
unbolt the pulley from the pump
unbolt the pump
put new pump on with the same directions, but backwards, i'd suggest using blue or black RTV sealant all the way around the pump's ports and on the block
it's not rocket science, once you start, you'll see how simple it is, there's nothing you can really mess up as long as you've got the right pump and it seals up and the belt goes back on the right way.

before you remove the belt. losen the pulley bolts.
that way the belt holds the pully still.
also, its really only 8 bolts and 1 hose clamp
4 bolts on the pully
4 hold the pump to the block.
pull the hose off the pump.
i forget if the brackets bolt anywhere on the waterpump, but i dont think they do..
its just drain the coolent, pull the hose(s), and unbolt it..
clean the mounting surfaces, use a lil RTV for a gasket or, use a paper gasket, or use a lil RTV on a papergasket(to hold it there)
bolt on the pump and pully and yer done.

yeah like said, the only hard part is breaking the bolts free =]
make sure u wipe the surface down good with a putty knife or something. Time consuming maybe, hard task? No. good luck
