I've got the full package in my 82. I've only taken it out 3 or 4 times, trying to dial it in. Right now it's advancing to much not letting me get above 5500 RPM's, but hey thats an ignition problem I'm working out.
On top that I't was running way to rich. I'm getting there, I'm just focused in on the rest the car right now, since I have red license till Dec. (doooo)
It's wonderfully tune at idle, I mean it starts right up, better then my Vette!
Here some advice, go with about 36-38 degrees of total advance. It likes about 8 - 10 degrees at idle.

That package will work fine, if you have the right exhaust and tune the carb. Set the max centrifugal advance (no vac) to 34-36 degrees, though, and when you hook up your vaccum advance, use the full port because that cam likes a lot of advance at idle, like 20 is ok. You BOTH should recurve your centrifugal advance to give you more total cent advance and start lower in the curve. any distributor shop can help you do this. Also, you only want/need about 6-8 degrees of vac advance and most canisters give you more. Gotta fix that or you may ping at 2200-2600 under mod loads.
I have lots of experience w/Edelbrock stuff and it's an honest 400hp, if not more, if you are using their heads, especially. They flow TONS out-of-the-box but if you port them JUST A LITTLE, they flow tons more.
Have fun and get the carb dial-in kit NOW. You will probably need it. I guess you could wait for it, though, because I have seem a couple of setups work fine as-is but there is always more power and MILEAGE to be gained from carb/ignition tuning.

I know a guy running this set up in a 67 Firebird. He has the whole RPM setup(heads, cam intake, carb, etc. I cant believe how fast it is. When he first got it together, he ran 12.70s. He swore that it had more in it and it needed to be tuned.
Well, he messed around with it and went 12.0s. A couple of weeks ago, he went 11.90s with that thing!! BTW, its on a short rod SBC 400. Big headers, Dual 3inch exhaust, 4.10 gears, drag Radials.

17 inch ROH "ZS" wheels. 17x8.5(front) and 17x9.5 (rear). And just recently T56!

I have that setup or at least used to. Until I blew the motor from all those rev's to 7000 be sure you have a good bottom end (or refrain from the temptation) cause this cam loves the high RPM's and because of that you will need a higher stall converter.... The edelbrock cam will start making power after about 3500 or 4000 so "hot rodding" the streets won't be nice without a nice converter.

The heads and intake are sweet, but you can get a better cam and carb depending upon what you want from your car. Is this going to be a street car or a track car? Do you need to pass emmissions? Stock bottom end? Stock tranny? Stock rear? Susspension? Comparing this setup and how fast it is on a 400 block to a 350 block is not really fair. I'm sure it IS a lot faster with the cubes under it. This system loves to rev high. Gears and a convertor are definately things you would want to consider next to help. Traction will severly limit you then. LCA, posi, drag radials will be next on your list. Then BANG... your tranny goes. Be prepared for these things if you run on the track a few times.
I am NOT trying to discourage you from buying this kit. It is a great combination for people who don't have much time/ experience in designing combos and have access to a dyno. Edelbrock did a good job with this kit... just be prepared for future problems.
BTW- You will want a good flowing exhaust and perhaps a good fuel system to handle this setup with a shot of nitrous. 100HP isn't that much, but you don't want to go lean at 6500, which this engine will rev to nicely...
