key cylinder rod
Hello all,
Does anyone know if there is a cylinder rod adjustment? I havent look in the book yet, I was hopeing that someone had a FAQ on this. I believe my rod is causing problems when starting. I have to turn the key cylinder way and add more pressure to the key cylinder before it will start, this only happens ever once in a while. I want to check the key rod and switch settings first. Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated.
Brad

You may be able to coax a little adjustment out of the ignition switch mounting screws, but the rod, sector, rack gear, and actuator linkage in the tilt mechanism have no adjustment for wear.
It sometimes helps to tilt the steering wheel to the lowest position when starting. This removes some of the slack from teh actuator linkage and can help lift the switch just a little father.

It might be the key switch that's worn out... https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=162390

try pushing straight down on the wheel.. if you can move it at all, try holding it down then starting it....
the GM tilt comes loose after awhile and makes thoes rod connections have to work farther..
also if your high/low beam switch stops working somtimes, you can do the same thing...
