Is it worth it?

I had my 305 TPI rebuilt a few months back, and while I do understand that the 305s arent the fastest engines ever built, it still feels...slow. :P

So! My QUESTION IS: Is it worth $250 to upgrade my 2 1/4" piping to 3"? I'm running a high-flow cat on it, with an 80 series Flowmaster muffler.

The engine is pretty much stock, bored over a little (probably a 307 or something now), with a slightly tricked-out cam (nothing too extreme).

Also, should I look into putting headers on? I'm running with the stock manifolds. Keep in mind I'm here in California.

Thanks for any replies!

Yes. Exhaust is definitely a way to an improvement. Make sure that there are no pieces left smaller than 2½" when you are finished.

A number of compnaies make CA-legal headers. SLP and Edelbrock, among others. I had Edelbrock on my car when I lived out there.

The 305 can be a fast motor if put into the right setup. The exhaust is probably the most popular mod for people on the is site without breaking into the motor. Torque converter is probably the best overall mod for automatics, IMO.
