GM says 2 different thermostats for my car?

Went to the dealership yesterday to get a thermostat and some other stuff for my 92 rs with a 305 tbi and the guy said there were 2 different size thermostats and I had no idea which one to get. I was really suprised because I thought all sbc's had the same thermostat. What gives and which one is the right one for me?

Odd. I got a 92 RS and it clearly takes the "standard" sized SBC thermostat, just like a billion other small blocks.

Two different "sizes"?? Can't imagine that. Maybe he's confusing the 3.1L V6 RS motor and the 5.0L V8 RS engines?

Yeah, thats why I thought it was odd too. I even gave him my engine code, which is E, and he said there are two thermostats for my car, and asked me which one it was. I had no clue so I didn't get one.

I just called the dealer again to make sure he didn't make a mistake accidently and a different guy said the same thing. He said that there were 2 different thermostats listed only for engine code E, aka 305 tbi. One being 52 mm and one being 58 mm I think he said. He also was confused as to why this is. Anyone have any ideas or experience with this?
