how do i remove the steering wheel??????

i want to replace the steering wheel in my 82 trans am, but i cant for the life of me figure out how to get the damn thing off. can someone please help me?!?!?!?!?!? THANKS

Once you get the nut off, you need to get a special tool called a wheel puller. It's like a gear puller. You can probrably rent one from an auto parts store.

another way to try without buying a tool is to pull like hell and have someone else hit the center pole with an hammer BUT LEAVE THE NUT ON THE THREADS A TURN OR TWO SO YOU DONT MUSHROOM THE SHAFT

how dangerous is your method jeff, and what are my odds of doing it without ruining anything??

oh yea, how much do you guys think a wheel puller would cost me?

A wheel puller can be had for probably less than $20, it is a nice tool to have around anyhow.

Jeffs method may work, but I would fork out the little cash just to be safe from missing and damaging something else.

Also AutoZone wents them out pay a deposit recieve the deposit upon return.

You may also need the part that depresses the spring to release the locking mechanism if you are doing anything other than just removing the wheel. It is also available at Autozone. You pay the price of the tool, then when you return it, they give you the money back.
