Bigtime Valve Cover problems..

I got the 5" tall valve covers and now my post on the back of the alternator hits the vlave cover and will not even bolt up to the brackets.

Does anyone know the model of alternator that will work on my car that has the stud on the back so I can cut part of it off and hopefully get it to work?

It is on an '89 Formula 350.

I already cut part of the post off, just enough to let me get the bolt tight when I screw it in, and it the case has already been rotated into all three different positions, and none of them will work....

need eveyone's help on this.

my suggestion was to change the clock position of the alternator...which would be separating the case and rotating the top to a diff position...but i think you already did that. most of the alternators for our cars are pretty similar in outside appearance...an oddball i can think if is only biggerm, sao that wont help you. i dont know what kind of options you're going to have...maybe you should just get smaller valve covers...

Yep, already rotated the case to all three positions and it hits in every position.

And since these vlave covers cost me about $100, I rather keep them and they have the look that I want.

So, I guess that leaves modifying the alternator some how....

If you have a v-belt setup you may want to get a longer belt to allow the alternator to be adjusted out more. Valve covers tnd to be a little smaller on top so you may just have enough room, hard to say without seeing it. We used an alternator from a ***** on a race car (mitsubishi i think, hitachi alternator) but we had to fabricate brackets to make it work.

Nope, it is the serpentine setup...

And I really would rather not fabricate brackets... but it looks like I might have too...

Does anyone know if I can mount this on the passenger side where the A/C use to be?

On my 84 the alternator is on the pass side, maybe this brackets off this style would work? This one uses the V belt so i dont really know if it would be possible to route the serpentine belt to accomodate this location. Jegs and summit sell alternator brackets, you may want to look at those. I know one kit is for racing and mounts the alternator where the PS pump is. You may also want to try looking in a street rod magazine, there are companies that sell all kinds of brackets and adaptors.
