Whats wrong with my car?

My car is DYING while I'm DRIVING! I was just about to get on it and it died. I had to direct it off to the side of the road. When I got it started again (after trying to turn it over 10 times) I got like 3 miles and it died while waiting at a red light. I took several, several tries to start it then and started making funny smells and sounded like it was backfiring...like smoke was coming out my tailpipes or something. What gives? I need help!

89,

You don't need help, you need a paper clip. Even a short piece of wire will work.

You need to scan the ECM for error codes. Report back what you find.

I'd put money on your fuel pump.
My buddy's '89 T/A with an aftermarket 350 kept doing that, dying at even 60KM/HR.
Unfortunately, if you're not inclined to do it yourself, it'll cost some money, as the fuel pump is up in your gas tank.

BUT, yeah, scan the ECM, who knows maybe you'll get lucky.

I have a carbed LG4 so whaddo I know ?

89IROC, from the thirdgen.org main page, visit the "Tech Area", then look for the "Miscellaneous" link for the FAQ. It'll tell you how to retrieve error codes.
