12v source

I'm in the process of wiring my converter off a switch. I have a tci tranny so everything is there for me to do it, theres just one problem. A single red wire im supposed to hook up to a "switched 12v source." I have zero experiance working with anything electric on a car, so what is this telling me? I've been told i could hook it up to the fuse panel but how or where? Thanks for your patience in helping out a complete rookie with wiring.

What car/year do you have?

If not originally equipped with a TCC lockup, then I'd suggest you buy the "kit" that wires through the brakelight switch.

This way you don't have to remember to flip a switch, to unlock the TCC.

its an 86 lb9 Z. The tci tranny came with that kit, I would just need to buy the brake pedal switch. I might do this later down the road, im just looking for lock-up on long highway trips. Anybody got a clue about the source?

Do you still have the ECM in the car? Was it originally an automatic car or 5 speed?

For 12 Volts, find any Key On voltage from the fuse block, or use 12v (fused) from battery volatge through your switch.

But best way is to use ecm control (assuming you have it).

Might try the tranny board as well, I read once where someone used the 4th gear pressure switch in the tranny to control lockup...this way as long as the tranny went into OD, the converter locked. Semed like a slick idea.

it was an auto, tci recomends you dont hook up the ecm switch as the tranny comes with it's own. Im trying it now and it wont lock-up, and when it does its random, the TC is new as well so i know it isnt that. How do i tap into the fuse box though? Do i need to just buy an insert and plug it into one of the slots? If so which one?

you can do one of two things:1 connect to large pink wire at bottom of steering column in interior compartment ,or 2 any terminal on underdash fuse box marked"IGN"

just outta curiousity, seeing as i have never had lock-up until today, (1) is it hard on the tranny to shift while in lock-up? Ive heard of people racing them that way? (2) Is it bad under normal use? Also, once again just outta curiuosity, (3) why does the converter un-lock anytime you hit the brakes? (4) Will damage encur if i leave the tranny locked up and barely brake on the high-way? Somebody shed a little light on this for me.
