'87 IROC, 350 TPI

While holding the key to start it, and even when giving it gas, the car takes approx. 3-5 seconds to start.

If I turn it off, and back on, again, it fires right up.

I know the sparkplugs are old, and I changed 2 a couple months ago (engine was flooded) and the 2 old ones BROKE in half, while taking them out.


But I believe it still started right up, then.

I put some injector cleaner in, but I doubt it's gotten through the engine, yet.

Not sure what it could be.. what does it sound like? Starter? spark plugs? Injectors, possibly?

 

When the key is put in the ignition and turned as described, what exactly happens during those 3-5 secs?

Does it crank slowly?

Does it do nothing and then suddenly crank?

Elaborate on your previous description some...

 

it cranks for a few seconds, and then finally starts up

i'm not that experienced with cars, so I can't give technical terms

 

If it cranks, I would guess, a weak battery or a dying starter...

You will need to do more investigation before condemning either...
