my 86 exhaust maifolds won't fit 79 block...time for headers?
Okay i'm tring to get all the parts onto my 305 before i drop it back into the car. Its a 79 305 so the oil dipstick is on the driver side instead of the pass. side like the original engine (86 305). So now the 86 manifolds block off the oil dipstick hole in the block. I think this may be my excuse to get headers
I think i want to go with the Edelbrock headers with the emissions stuff on it. My question is will i have the same problems that i had with the maniflds? Will the HO 305 setup for 83-86 work?

Yes they will work.
What I did in the same situation 70s 400 block into my 83 HO Z28) was to get the oil "gauge and tube assembly" as GM calls it for a 78 El Camino. This plugs into the side of the pan, rather than going through the block. I then took an old wasted big block pan I had laying around, and cut the little tube out of it, and brazed it into the side of my pan (a 70 Z28 6-quart one). Worked great.
When I put an Edelbrock TES on it, this was no longer necessary; I put a Mr Gasket one or some such in the block. The HO headers will fit your car, execpt that you will have to do something creative where they will bolt to the cat. A simple solution might be to get the HO cat adapter from SLP and weld it onto a new 3" cat.
