I have an 89 GTA L98/auto. It sounds dumb but i just noticed my exhaust the other day. It has an exhaust off an early third-gen. It is the kind with the 2.5" pipe from the cat going into TWO small crossflow mufflers. My parents used to have an 83 T/A w/ a 305 and it had this exhaust. How much is this killing my performance? Also, where can I get the correct 3" exhaust for my car for pretty cheap? Im running short on cash. I just bought a flowmaster and want to use it. Any help is appreciated guys.

yeah that exhaust was also availiable on the 84 t/a's as well- i would say if you got a flow for it, see if you can return the muffler and get the cat back... about 250-350 bucks for a good cat back, and yes, you will want a 3 incher

yeah, i thought of that. but i dont like how the cat-back system is only a single outlet tailpipe. if i could find a dual tailpipe cat back i would get it.

well i really like the hooker cat back sound... hehe

you could also see if you can order the intermediate pipe from flowmaster. you might be able to buy the seperate pieces and use your new muffler...
