I am hooking up a water pump to a new engine and I am not hooking up the heater lines. Can I just block off the water passage out of the intake manifold that went to the heater core and block off the water passage into the water pump from the heater core or do I need to run a line from the intake manifold to the water pump? I have seen some applications that run a short hose from the front of the intake manifold to the water pump.

just use a couple of pipe plugs and you'll be fine.
