I have your exact problem! My 87 IROC leaks on the drivers side rear as well. The leak is from coolant flowing through the manifold. The gasket is not sealing between it and the head. The only way I know of to fix it is to remove the intake manifold and replace the gasket. I have done this before, about 4 years ago on the same manifold. I believe the leakage occurs because the heads are cast iron and the intake manifold is aluminum, thus the expansion rates are different. Eventually a leak develops. It's a fairly big job, having to remove all the air and fuel piping, etc.. The biggest pain is the Torx style fasteners that hold the manifold to the block. The last time the bit to tighten them broke on me about 5 times and I was using a craftsman bit. I am about to take mine apart all over again. If anyone has any further information I would appreciate it.

i just had that problem also maybe its a 87 thing, don't know but its not as bad as it looks first get the gasket set i used felpro, came complete with intake, runner and plenum gaskets and dist. seal, and a tube of silicone for front and rear of block surface and don't forget a thermatat housing gasket and since you are there get a new thermastat if you haven't changed it in a while. and a tube of gaskit sealer and anti seize compound. label all hose and wires during removal you will be glad you did. and if you have a hard time with dist. removal and replacement set it at tdc #1 before you take it out. and make sure you let the water level down, at least lower than the intake itself. then start from the top and work down and keep tract of all nuts and bolts and a haynes manual is very helpful and if you use a tork wrench you should not have a problem with breakage and a good t-40 bit.
clean all surfaces the best you can it does help. good luck and have fun. kind of like getting to know your engine.
