I own a 89' v6 firebird, and it gets very hard to start when it is cold, I have to try like 4 times before it starts.

Pick up coil is a bad place to start. Seems like alot of the late 80's cars are having that problem right now. My pick-up coil went out a few months ago. Have you check the obvious stuff like fuel pressure and the air filter?

I'm thinking in changing the fuel pump relay to see what happens.

On my last poast, I meant to say that the pick-up cool was NOT a bad place to start...Anyway, I'm not sure what the problem is then. Best of luck. If the relay takes ca re of it, let us know so we can help the next person that has this problem.

well then u got the ahrd part out of the way. if u got fuel pressure u shuld be fine, when the car doesnt start, pull a plug n wire, see if u get spark,if not check to see if ur coil gets spark. try taking ur ignition control module n having it tested also. they do it free at vato zone

u see how the cap has the slot where the two connectors come out, that little thing is the ignition control module, its around 30 bux for a new one,i replaced it n it hlped just with driveability all around, but it may be your problem. u pup off the cap n rotor, its what the pickup coil hooks into also.

ok I'll try that in the morning, so I cant test it in the auto zone right? for free so I'll go tomorrow and test it, maybe that's the problem. I let you know, the problem is that I have to test my car when the weather is really cold, and where I live this only happens really early in the morning. lol
thanks.

it may be, sometimes they test ok though. my problem was the exact same as yours, but the pickup coil would loose the connection to the control module when it was cold cause the metal wasnt warm enough to have expanded,so it wouldnt contact the pins on the ICM. it sucked,i hunted that problem for over two years, lol.

Yeah, make sure you do use all the dailectric gel they give you for the module if you do replace it. That stuff makes a huge difference with heat build up and breakdown.
