E Check...HELP!!!!
E Check...HELP!!!!
ok, so my car has been sitting since october. Now that i got it going and everything i need new plates, but now i need to get a E check!
Right now, my car is running like crap, im not sure what all is off on it. It's down on power big time, and when im letting the engine warm up and i rev it. I leave large black spots on the cement where my exhaust is. Any idea as to waht that is.
( running rich maybe?, timing off a little bit?)
So Besides what's going on with the big black spots of soot... What little tricks can i do to help pass e check ( with out paying off the guy at the e check place ) It's an LG4, as far as i know the carb is'nt exactly tuned yet. I have a 3 inch cat and 3 inch cat back system. besides that it's mostly stock. Does that pour in E check pass fluid actually work, or anything that will help i need it!
thanks guys

Opha,
The black spot is from soot (carbon), the result of a very rich mixture. If you haven't replaced the oxygen sensor in 30-40,000 miles, it's probably due for replacement. You'll probably also have to check / set the TPS voltage and mixture control solenoid on the carb. Check timing.
The additives can help you pass by reducing HC emissions, but aren't going to help if the problem is that bad.

ok, replaced the Oxygen sensor today. Any other ideas that might help, car still seems to feel sluggish, do you think tuning my timing will help the emmisions along with hopefully getting power back? I think i'll need every little trick to help, my car smells bad as it is. And i dont see how my Cat could be bad it only has like 300 miles on it and it's about a year old.

change your oil, spark plugs, air filter, pcv valve and get the timing adjsuted, also add alcohol to your gas and then get it tested
