first of all im gonna just give my input that i dont like shaved handles on a camaro. Doesnt look right on our kind of cars.
Now to your question i would be surprised if it was illegal. I live in ontario and i have seen a number of cars that have em shaved. Easiest way to find out. Start with calling your local police department and they should either be able to tell you or put you in touch with someone who can.

Second of all, and no offense to police department personnel (since they have more than enough to do already), most police departments don't really have that good of a grasp of such obscure motor vehicle regulations. They've got plenty to keep them busy with just the "main" rules and regulations. That's why there are District Attornies and legislatures.
I had a District 15 state patrol trooper stop me because "Your car is too low and you can't have your tail lights covered like that" I think he was honestly annoyed at me because he couldn't get the radar gun locked on me but just knew I was going too fast, and wanted to get me for at least something. I explained to him that the front end wasn't that low, and promptly flexed the rubber air skirt right up to the body to reveral four inches of clearance. He didn't even argue about the tail lights after he saw that the lenses were still factory, DOT-approved pieces. Needless to say, the cruise was set right at 65 the rest of that trip through Cook County.
The point is, rather than bother your local police for something that will only result in their opinion, call your state or provincial legislator. He/she has several staff assistants with probably little to do at times, and should be able to check your applicable motor vehicle codes and get you the correct answer. After all, they are supposed to be working for YOU, right?
I know that there is no FMVSS on exterior door handle, their locations, or whther a car even needs them. There are U.S. FMVS standards that apply to interior handles and *****, however. I'm not too sure about Canada, eh, but most standards in Canada and the U.S. seem to mirror one another pretty closely.

I don't see why you couldn't... I've seen a few magazine articles about doing it to 4th gen cars for the street.
And yea, Canadian laws basically mirror the US ones, but we are FAR more lenient, lol.
to indifference!!

I am presently painting my 91Z, and was planning to shave the handles. But last time I was teching it in at the track, I overheard a tech guy say that if you have shaved handles, you dont race. They say that there has to be an "external" way into the car in case of an accident. Thats for my track in Oregon. Anyway, I just thought that you may want to consider that if you plan on racing it.
