Tach on drugs, help needed

My car idles as smooth as ever and every once and awhile the tach will get a mind of its own and jump from 500 to redline to 2000 and haphazordly jump around for an totally none consitant amount of time. Seems to make it better when I disconect the batery and tach wire and reconnect it with the car off. The car never did it until the last time i took the intake manifold off and "though" I set the timming back right. Any ideas?

UVA,

Check the routing of the ignition primary wiring to make sure it is not in close proximity to the coil wire or plug wires. There was a TSB from GM regarding erratic tach readings, and that was one of their suggestions.
