Need help on wich camshaft to buy...

Ive narrowed it down to 2 of them...I think http://www.cranecams.com/master/apps/chevy37.htm
#3 looks like the obvious choice, requireing really no modding

#4 the only think ill need is a afpr, but mine is an auto not 5spd and tbi not tpi, would this cam be to stout?

now here are my q's:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
e For use with either pushrod guideplate or non-guideplate cylinder heads.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

do I meet this requirement?

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
f Roller-type timing chain and gears
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i assume i have this type?

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i 1.5 ratio (not self-aligning). Will not have sufficient clearance in factory cast valve covers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

what size rockers do i have? will need taller valve covers?
Are there other cams than i am missing? please recomened some. I really want to get rid of this peanut cam. Some mods that i have done are: headers, 3" exhaust, ads superchip.

Thanks for the help!

Well i have no idea what kinda engine you have or anything, but generally as a rule, a camshaft upgrade is one of the last mods you do, after head-work/swap, improvments in the intake and exhaust etc

choosing the right camshaft very much depends on the specifics of your engine

theres a great article about camshafts at
http://www.calgarydragracing.ab.ca/pits.html

which should help you understand how they work.
I would suggest, that since your tearing into the motor anyway, budget in a head porting as well to take advantage of the increased flow your cam will be producing.

good luck!

------------------
1982 Camaro Z28...$1000
Vortec 350 block rebuilt 20 over.. $900
L31 Vortec heads...$0 xtreme energy comp cam... $200
Edelbrock carb/intake...$500
home made cold air/ram air induction...$0
dynomax headers...$150
flowmaster 3chamber...$250
rebuild diff, 3.73 richmond swap... $900 built 7004r w/ stock converter... $200

Dusting a 2000 GT with my "truck motor"...
PRICELESS

I would go with Edelbrock, mainly because they have Dyno matched parts. I don't know what year your car is or what type of induction you have (4bbl, TBI, TPI).
I have a good cam it's the Edelbrock 3700. It's good for low end tourqe, and that's what you want. It's smog legal too. If you have a 4bbl or TBI you can put on a #3704 (87 and up) or a #3701 (pre 87)intake and it's matched to the cam for peak performance.
I have one of these cams brand new in the box if your interested in it give me a E mail. JIM
