CAM selection - Roller?
CAM selection - Roller?
Ok, I'm working out the details on my 350, and have made some decisions. This is a fairly small budget operation, as although I enjoy playing with my four wheeled toy, there's alot of other stuff I want to do out there. =)
So it's a '72 350, 2 bolt, I will be using flat-top pistons with ported 882 heads. I know 882's are garbage to many but they are FREE and flow decent enough. (Compression??) I will re-use my Edelbrock performer (nonEGR) and hopefully, the stock computer q-jet if it behaves, but, I will have no probs chucking the primitive '83 computer if I feel so inclined.
Anyway, camshafts :
Hydrollic flat tappet, or retofit roller?
Cons/Pros?
Should I go with a XE262 / XR264HR grind, or go one bigger to a XE268 / XR270HR grind?
I have a 3.73 rear end with a T5 transmission. I will also be using headers, and 3" catback exhaust. Emissions are not really a problem, as the limits %-wise are fairly loose on older cars here.
As far as driving habits go, even when raping my poor vehicle I only shift from 5000-5200RPM.
I think that's all the information I need to provide here... hmm.
Please and thanks!

i know that rollers are a little more high tech and newer on the auto scene.. but from people ive talked to, especially other people also living with a budget, they say that they are no better than flat tappet designs. yea, i know im going to get flamed for that, so ill also add in 'they are no better considering the additional cost'. but, ask around, get some opinions from mechanics that may race or go to a local track and see if you can talk to some reps or racers.
to use a roller you'd have to go with all aftermarket parts. a hydrolic would work well for you. i'd stay in the .475 lift 210* duration range.
