how to set timing on 89 K1500?

Had a head gasket go bad, just need timing in a nut shell for this beast. 89 Chevy K1500 with 350 TBI unit. Heard I have to unplug a certain wire behind the plastic cover on firewall, then just set the timing at an idle to 0? Does this sound right or am I on the right track, also, what wire am I looking for anyways. Thanks for quick help.

Yea man, i would be glad to help. Remove the relay cover from the pass side firewall ( three plastic nuts) unplug the timing connector, It will be a tan wire with a black stripe. the connector will most likely be taped to the larger wire loom with electrical tape. Set timing to 0º with the connector unplugged and at an idle with the engine warm. Dont forget to reconnect it when done.

Reading the "sticky" messages at the top of the boards would be a good idea.
