Changing to a 145MPH speedo

What is involved in changing a Canadian speedo over to the 145MPH equivalent in KM/H. I have an 88 IROC and for some reason the speedo only goes upp to 180Km/h somewhere around 85mph. So what is involved in changing over to the larger speedo.?

THanks

It's pretty easy. First, remove the black plastic ring around the gauges, then unscrew the gauge cluster from the car by getting those 2 nuts down near the SES and seat belt lights. After you remove the plastic interior panel under the steering column, you can locate the black speedo cable and follow it all the way to the back of the speedo. If you cram yourself into the pedals, you will be able to reach all the way back. Press the metal tab at the end of the cable while pulling gently on the cluster. It'll pop right out. Work the cluster out around the steering wheel (if you don't have tilt, you'll probably need to drop the column) and you're all set. Once it's on the bench you'll see a couple screws on the back of the speedo that you need to remove. When putting it back in, just line up the speedo cable to the back of the speedo and push. You should hear a click, then you won't be able to pull the gauges back out. That means it's all set and can be screwed back into place.

That's exactly how I did mine Jim! The only difference is, I took the speedo face off and changed the odometer from my old cluster into the new one, so that the mileage stayed right. I'm not super worried about it, but I just like it to be right!

I would have too, but I had the new odo rolled back to match my milage. Well, close to it. I drove the car 100 miles over before I had the chance to change the speedo.

Matt350,

I have a like-new 240km/145mph speedo. It's showing 12.7km on the odometer (I put a couple on making sure the trip odometer worked). Pics available, if you're interested. $125 shipped, money order, certified check or PayPal.

Those stupid trip meters are a PITA! I have 2 speedo's that the trip wont work in. There are a couple plastic "hooks" in there that break. I have a third that seems to be ok, I just hate to pull it all apart to change all that crap over. It's an 85'er so I will have my work cut out for me! May I can send it to a speedo shop and have it calibrated also. I got mine pretty close, but it is off by a couple MPH. Luckily it reads faster than I'm going!

My 240/145 speed is still in my race car. It's filling the hole in the dash. It has something like 158k km on it before it was disconnected. odo and trip meter work fine.
